How to choose an SEO company in Dubai, Riyadh or Doha: 12 questions

Ilyes Massoudi8 min read

The short answer

The best SEO company is not the one ranking first for 'SEO company in Dubai'. It is the one that answers twelve questions plainly: who does the work by name, how many hours of expertise reach you each month, whether they research Arabic the way your customer types it, who they consider your competitors, what the monthly report contains, and what you keep when you stop. Any company promising position one, or offering an annual contract before a diagnosis, is out. Start with an independent fixed-price audit before any monthly contract.

Why searching for “best SEO company” does not help

Search for the best SEO company in Riyadh or Dubai and you get a results page full of firms describing themselves in identical words: leaders, growth partners, guaranteed results. Nothing on those pages lets you tell a company that does real work from one that sells reports.

The fix is not a “top ten SEO companies” list, because those lists are mostly paid placements. The fix is to walk into the first call with specific questions and judge the answers. The questions below are the ones I use when a client asks me to evaluate a proposal they have received.

Four questions about the people

1. Who will work on my account, by name? Not who will sell to me, but who will open Search Console every week. If the answer is “our team”, ask for a name. A company that will not name the person intends to swap them.

2. How many hours of expertise reach me each month? A monthly fee funds rent, sales, an account manager and a margin before any of it reaches the person doing the work. Ask for the actual hours, who spends them, and their experience. That number explains why two proposals at the same price differ.

3. Does the person doing the work read Arabic search results? Not whether they speak Arabic, but whether they research and write in it. Ask for an example of an Arabic query they researched for a previous client in its different forms: Modern Standard, dialect, Latin letters. Someone translating an English list cannot answer.

4. What do you turn down? A company that accepts everything, SEO, ads, social, design and development at the same quality, is selling you words. A specialist has a clear refusal list.

Four questions about the work

5. What diagnosis comes before execution? If a company offers a monthly contract before examining your site, it is selling a package, not a solution. Serious work starts with an audit, ideally independent of whoever will execute.

6. Who are my competitors, in your view? Ask for three names and a measurable comparison. A vague “your competitors are stronger, we need time” means nobody looked.

7. What exactly does the monthly report contain? Ask for an anonymised sample from a previous client. Look for one thing: does it connect the tasks completed to the enquiries that arrived, or does it just count tasks? “Published 12 articles” is activity. “Enquiries from search up 30%” is a result.

8. How do you build external links? The dangerous answer is “we have a network of sites”. Links bought in bulk are the most common way an owner damages their own domain while paying for the privilege.

Four questions about the contract

9. What is the commitment period, and why? Month to month or a quarter is reasonable. An annual contract with a party you have not tried moves all the risk to you, and no discount changes that.

10. What do I own when we stop? Accounts, content, reports and links must be in your name. A company that keeps Search Console or the ads account under its own name is building an artificial dependency.

11. What happens if nothing moves after six months? Nobody guarantees rankings, but a serious provider guarantees transparency: a report that says what did not work and why, and a revised plan, not another invoice for the same amount.

12. Can I speak to a current client? Not a written testimonial, a call. A company with satisfied clients arranges it easily.

Red flags that end the call

  • A promise of position one, or of a set number of keywords on page one within a fixed period.
  • A very low monthly price with wide promises.
  • A fixed “package” of articles and links before any diagnosis of your site.
  • A free report that arrives within minutes alongside a contract offer; it is automated tool output.
  • Refusal to name the person who will execute.
  • Pressure: an offer that expires tonight, or a discount conditional on signing now.

What differs between Riyadh, Dubai and Doha

In Saudi Arabia search demand is Arabic first, and competition on Arabic queries is heavier than anywhere else in the Gulf. Ask the company about the difference between what a searcher types in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province. If it treats Saudi Arabia as one market with one dialect, it works from a template.

In the UAE the market is genuinely bilingual: residents search in English, nationals and Gulf visitors in Arabic. Most SEO companies in Dubai treat Arabic as a secondary, translated version. Ask what share of their current accounts is Arabic work.

In Qatar the market is small and much of the demand is institutional: government and semi-government bodies, education, hospitality. Ask about experience with institutional procurement and documented delivery, because that differs from working with a small shop.

When an independent consultant fits better than a company

Choose a company when you need several specialisms working together with a budget large enough for a real expert in each, when continuity is a contractual requirement, or when your procurement rules do not allow contracting an individual.

Choose an independent consultant when search is the work itself and you want the money to go to hours of expertise rather than to an account-management layer. The full arithmetic is in freelancer versus agency.

In both cases the first step is the same: an independent fixed-price audit before any monthly contract. The audit gives you a plan ranked by impact that you can execute with whoever you choose, and it turns any call with a company into a conversation about a specific plan rather than about promises. The Digital Presence Audit I offer is built for exactly that: USD 249, four business days, and the report is yours.

Common questions

Are the big agencies in Dubai better than small ones?
Size measures structure, not quality. A large agency offers several specialisms and continuity, and funds that by having a junior staffer split their week across ten accounts. A small agency or an independent gives you more senior hours for the same money, with a single point of failure. Ask for the name of the person who will work on your account, not the size of the company.
How much should an SEO company in the Gulf cost per month?
A serious monthly engagement starts around USD 1,000 and runs to 5,000 and beyond depending on markets and languages. Anything under USD 500 a month does not fund real execution, only an automated report and some posts. Compare the hours of expertise you receive, not the invoice figure.
Do I need an SEO company in my own city?
The work itself does not need an office in your city. Diagnosis, execution and measurement all happen remotely. What you need is someone who reads the search results of your market in its language: Gulf Arabic as typed in Riyadh or Doha, English as searched by a resident of Dubai. Linguistic proximity matters more than geographic.
